Newcastle Magic Circle has met in the city since 23 February 1933. If you want the history, the way in, or the people — those here now, and those we remember — it is set out below.
Burt Fry ran the Saville Restaurant on Saville Row, and had been a professional magician. He put a notice in the Evening Chronicle asking other magicians to write to him. The club began as the Saville Magic Club, named for that room, and is now the Newcastle Magic Circle, meeting at MagicBox in Camperdown.
The Circle welcomes people with a genuine interest in magic, as a hobby or professionally. Candidates are 16 or over and are proposed by two current members. If you do not know any members yet, the council starts with an informal chat. You then come to three club evenings before an audition in front of the members. The joining fee is £50 and the annual subscription is £75.
The council is listed with each role. Under that, every current member is named by the year they joined.
